Why does the Chinese ATACH Pump Factory ask the customer about the specific gravity of the medium during the selection process?
Customers who have cooperated with ATACH Pump Factory (Dongguan Industrial Pump Factory) are aware that ATACH's salespeople always ask about the specific gravity of the medium before making a quotation. So, is the specific gravity of the medium really important? What aspect of the pump does it mainly affect? The analysis is as follows: When selecting the model, the Chinese ATACH Pump Factory inquired about the density of the medium from the customer, mainly to ensure that the selected pump can efficiently and safely meet the requirements of specific working conditions. The density of the medium (also known as specific gravity or relative density) is an important parameter that describes the weight characteristics of the medium and directly affects the pump's head, power consumption, and overall performance. The density affects the calculation of the pump's head and power consumption. For common types such as centrifugal pumps, the head is the work done by the pump on a unit weight of liquid, usually expressed in meters as the height of liquid lift. When the medium density increases, the weight of the liquid increases, and the pump needs to provide greater pressure to overcome gravity, so the actual head (expressed in pressure) will change with the density; if the density deviates from the standard value (specific gravity = 1), the pump's output characteristics will deviate from the standard curve, and corrections must be made to avoid insufficient performance or overload. At the same time, the shaft power of the pump is proportional to the medium density, and the greater the density, the higher the power required to drive the pump, ignoring the density may lead to motor overload or low efficiency. Density is a key factor in determining the type and material of the pump. Different densities of media often come with different physical or chemical properties (such as corrosiveness, viscosity), which will affect the selection of the pump and the material of the components. For example, high-density media may require a stronger structure or specific corrosion-resistant materials to ensure long-term reliable operation. In addition, density helps to avoid cavitation and optimize system design. The cavitation margin is related to the density of the medium, and changes in density will affect the necessary cavitation margin of the pump. Correct assessment can prevent cavitation damage. In system design, the head calculation must include density correction to ensure the conveying capacity. |
