How does the energy efficiency of the motor affect the use of centrifugal pumps?

The motors used in the centrifugal pumps of ATACH Industrial Pump Factory are generally YE2/YE3.

So, what are the impacts of using pumps with different energy efficiencies? 


The energy efficiency of the motor has significant impacts on the use of centrifugal pumps, mainly manifested in aspects such as energy consumption, operating costs, system performance, and environmental benefits.

‌Energy consumption and operating costs:‌ The energy efficiency of the motor directly determines the efficiency of converting electrical energy into mechanical energy. High-efficiency motors can significantly reduce energy consumption. For example, a 10kW centrifugal pump using a motor with an efficiency of 92% compared to a motor with an efficiency of 87% can save approximately 2.1 kilowatt-hours of electricity over 24 hours of continuous operation; calculated at an industrial electricity price of 0.8 yuan per kilowatt-hour, the daily savings amount to approximately 1.68 yuan, and the annual savings can reach 613.2 yuan. From the perspective of the total life cycle cost, the energy cost accounts for more than 40%, so although high-efficiency motors may increase initial investment, they can significantly reduce the total cost over the long term.

‌System performance and stability:‌ High-efficiency motors are usually well-designed and can provide more stable torque output, reducing fluctuations during startup and load changes, and improving the stability of pump operation. At the same time, the improvement in motor power factor (e.g., from 0.85 to 0.95) can reduce reactive power demand, alleviate the burden on the power grid, reduce line losses, and avoid voltage fluctuations affecting system reliability.

‌Maintenance requirements and lifespan:‌ High-efficiency motors, due to their durable materials and optimized design, can reduce average maintenance costs by 20%-30%, reducing downtime and maintenance frequency, and indirectly improving the availability and economic performance of the centrifugal pump system.

‌Environmental benefits:‌ Energy efficiency improvement directly reduces electricity consumption, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. For example, in the case of the efficiency improvement mentioned above, the annual saved electricity is equivalent to reducing the corresponding amount of carbon emissions, which complies with energy-saving and emission reduction policies and contributes to sustainable development.

‌Selection and system optimization:‌ Energy efficiency of the motor is a key indicator for centrifugal pump selection, and priority should be given to selecting first-level energy-efficient motors. At the same time, it is necessary to combine overall system optimization, such as matching the optimal efficiency point (BEP), applying variable frequency speed regulation, and optimizing pipeline design, to achieve comprehensive energy savings of 20%-40%.
