The answer is, it depends!
Mechanical seal advantages and application:
1) The seal is reliable, the use of the process will not leak or rarely leak, the leakage is 1% of the packing seal, will not cause pollution to the environment due to leakage;
2) Long service life;
3) The shaft or sleeve is not worn;
4) Little leakage, less need for maintenance;
5) Less friction power loss;
6) The finish and accuracy of the shaft are not as high as the packing seal;
7) Wide applicability;
8) Can meet the customer's demanding "zero leakage", which is the packing seal can not do.
Mechanical seal defects and inapplicability:
1) Mechanical seals are more complex and difficult to process;
2) Installation and replacement is relatively troublesome, requiring operators to have certain professional knowledge;
3) It is more difficult to deal with accidental accidents;
4) High one-time investment.
Packing seals are vice versa.
